Catastrophic Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Complications Following Corrosive Ingestion

Ingestion of caustic substances, either acidic or alkali, is a well-known cause significant mortality and morbidity in the pediatric adult populations. According to pH, physical form, amount, rate ingestion these wide range immediate as well possible subsequent chronic complications can result. Some patients may have minimal mild symptoms. However, others present with moderate even serious symptoms, form dysphagia, odynophagia, hoarseness, epigastric pain. Herein we case 26-year-old male patient history Nitric acid ingestion. He initially complained severe chest abdominal pain, associated hematemesis, hypersalivation, inability tolerate oral intake. Initial Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) showed diffuse mucosal ulceration reaching second part duodenum. Multiple EGDs revealed more extensive damage esophageal stricture pyloric stenosis for which multiple dilatation attempts were done. The received supportive management during his hospitalization course, but was enough that he referred surgical management. Such catastrophic sequels are still encountered, especially developing countries. We this looking forward raising awareness about dangerous phenomenon highlighting significance identification grading injury.
